Nia talks with Karnie Paris, Manager of Client Support Services at Super Claims Assist and mum to three children.
Karnie Paris is a client services manager at Super Claim Assist and a mother of three. She began working at a young age and has always been drawn to customer service roles, which she considers her forte. She completed her studies at night while working full-time to support her family.
After living in Japan for a while and marrying her husband, she moved to the US and had her first daughter. This marked a shift in her career as she wanted to work on her own terms. She took over a small gardening business that allowed her to have the flexibility to be with her kids when she wanted and work in the hours that she had available.
Being a mother has taught Karnie many skills that are valuable in the workplace, such as resilience, focus, empathy, and connection. She prefers a work-life integration rather than a balance as she feels it is more natural and allows her to involve her kids in what she is doing. Her kids have seen her and her husband build their own business and integrate it with their family life, which they consider a valuable experience.
Karnie advises mothers returning to the workforce to step forth with courage as the natural skills they already have, such as reliability, resilience, and life experience, are highly sought after in the workplace. She emphasises that mothers should not underestimate their value and what they bring to the table.
In conclusion, Karnie’s career journey has been a combination of hard work, determination, and the desire to have a career on her own terms. She values the skills she has learned from being a mother and the work-life integration that has allowed her to successfully balance her career and family life.
